Nominations for Yard of the Month
To nominate your yard or a neighbor's yard for Yard of the Month or holiday decorations, please fill out the following form.
Selection Criteria
Lawn
- Healthy grass with no bare spots or excessive weeds.
- Grass shall be mowed and edged, and grass around foundations and fences shall be trimmed.
- Debris (garbage, pet feces, etc.) shall be picked up and removed.
Landscape/Flower Beds
- Beds weeded and edged.
- Flowers deadheaded and dead plants removed.
- Trees and shrubs pruned.
Sidewalks/Driveways
- Sidewalks and driveways shall be clean and stain free (including trash containers or yard products removed from view).
- Area in front of curb free from debris and dirt.
Aesthetics
- Overall look of landscaping (formal versus informal, use of color and textures, garden art).
- Inviting look of front entryway (hanging baskets, pots, cleanliness etc.)
Judging
The neighborhood will be divided into regions. A landscape committee member will be assigned to each region to determine yards to be judged each month. You can also nominate your yard or a neighbor's yard for consideration. Final judging will be done on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the last week of the month; award to be in effect for the following month. There will be 3 judges per home with selection criteria awarded from 1-5 points in each category (1 = poor and 5 = excellent).
Awards & Prizes
In addition to a sign proclaiming "Yard of the Month ," the winner will receive a gift certificate to a local garden store, e.g., Home Depot, Lowe's, Wal-mart, etc. After winning Yard of the Month, you will be ineligible to win again for one year.
Holiday Decorations
We will also be awarding a prize for best holiday decorations for the following holidays: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and 4th of July. Decorating for each holiday can begin two weeks prior to the holiday. Decorations must be removed within one week after the holiday. The exception to this is Christmas when decorating can begin the day after Thanksgiving with decorations removed by January 5.
